RIIWHS202E
Enter and work in confined spaces
Confined spaces present some of the most serious hazards in Australian workplaces, including toxic or oxygen-deficient atmospheres, engulfment, and restricted rescue access. This course covers the skills and knowledge needed to safely plan for, enter, work in, and exit a confined space in line with WHS legislation, entry permit requirements, and industry procedures.

Course Overview

RIIWHS202E – Enter and Work in Confined Spaces gives participants the practical skills and knowledge to safely work in confined spaces across resources, mining, construction, utilities, and maintenance environments. The course covers how to obtain and interpret a confined space entry permit, identify and control hazards, select and use appropriate PPE, test and monitor the atmosphere, apply tag and lock-out procedures, maintain communication with the stand-by person, and correctly exit and close out a confined space entry.
Working in a confined space without proper training, equipment, and authorisation is a significant risk to life. This course is designed to ensure that everyone entering a confined space — and those supporting the operation from outside — understands their responsibilities and can apply safe work procedures with confidence.
Training is delivered by experienced industry trainers at our facility or on-site across Western Australia.

Who needs this training?
New to industry
If your role requires you to enter or work in a confined space and you don't yet hold formal training for this work, this course gives you the skills and knowledge to do so safely and in line with WHS legislation and entry permit requirements.
Renewal due
There is no legislated expiry date for this unit, however Safe Work Australia's Code of Practice for Confined Spaces and industry best practice recommend refresher training every two years. Many employers and principal contractors also require current confined space training as a condition of site access. This course gets you back up to date with current WHS requirements and procedures.
Team training
If your workforce regularly performs confined space entries across construction, resources, utilities, or maintenance operations, we can come to your site. On-site delivery is available across Western Australia and allows training to be contextualised to the specific confined spaces your team works in. Contact us to discuss group bookings and scheduling options.
Related Courses
Confined space entry is often one of several competencies required before workers can safely access restricted site areas. The courses below are worth checking if you are building out your safety tickets or preparing for work in environments with multiple access and hazard requirements.
