Course Overview
TLILIC0021 – Licence to Operate a Slewing Mobile Crane (Up to 100 Tonnes) gives participants the practical skills and knowledge to safely operate large-capacity slewing mobile cranes across major construction, infrastructure, resources, and heavy industry environments. The course covers how to plan complex lifting operations, read and apply load charts for high-capacity cranes, assess and manage ground conditions, configure the crane and associated equipment for the task, transfer and mobile loads safely, and carry out shutdown and securing procedures.
A slewing mobile crane is a mobile crane incorporating a boom or jib that can be slewed (rotated). This course does not apply to front-end loaders, backhoes, excavators, or other earthmoving equipment when configured for crane operation. A C1 licence covers the full scope of the C6 class (up to 60 tonnes), C2 class (up to 20 tonnes), and also covers non-slewing mobile cranes (CN) and vehicle loading cranes (CV) within respective capacity limits.
Participants looking to operate cranes above 100 tonnes can progress to TLILIC0020 – Licence to Operate a Slewing Mobile Crane (Over 100 Tonnes).
Training is delivered by experienced industry trainers at our facility or on-site across Western Australia. On successful completion of training and assessment, participants can apply to WorkSafe WA for their High Risk Work Licence in the Slewing Mobile Crane (C1) class.

Traffic management and communication procedures — whistles, hand signals, and two-way radios
Conducting routine pre-operational checks on the crane and all associated equipment
Checking and completing the crane logbook and recording faults or defects
Checking and testing crane safety devices, controls, and crane computer systems (where fitted)
Loading crane computer data and verifying it accurately reflects crane configuration
Assessing ground conditions, bearing capacity, and load requirements before setting up
Reading and applying load charts for high-capacity crane configurations and working load limits

Monitoring lifting operations and responding to unplanned or unsafe situations
Shutting down, securing, and packing up the crane after use
Prerequisites and Entry Requirements
There are no formal prerequisite units listed for this course. However, due to the complexity and capacity of plant involved, participants are strongly recommended to hold a current Dogging (DG) High Risk Work Licence and to have prior operating experience at the C6 (up to 60 tonnes) level before enrolling.
Please contact us before enrolling to discuss your existing experience and qualifications.
All participants must:
Be 18 years of age or older
Hold a valid Unique Student Identifier (USI)
Provide valid proof of identity
Have sufficient Language, Literacy and Numeracy (LLN) skills to participate in training and assessment, including a solid working knowledge of maths and load calculation formulas
Be physically able to perform the tasks required to operate a large-capacity slewing mobile crane
Bring a pen
Wear appropriate PPE: steel-capped boots, long pants, and a hi-vis long sleeve shirt. If you do not have a hi-vis shirt, Paratus Training can provide a hi-vis vest

Who needs this training?
New to industry
If your role requires you to operate a slewing mobile crane with a capacity between 61 and 100 tonnes and you don't yet hold a C1 High Risk Work Licence, this course gives you the skills and knowledge required to operate safely and apply for your licence through WorkSafe WA. The C1 also covers the full scope of the C6, C2, CN, and CV classes within respective capacity limits.
Renewal due
High Risk Work Licences in WA are renewed every five years through WorkSafe WA. Renewal is an administrative process and does not require refresher training. However, many employers and principal contractors require a Verification of Competency (VOC) before allowing operators on site. Contact us to discuss VOC assessments for this unit.
Team training
If your business operates high-capacity slewing mobile cranes across major projects in construction, resources, or civil infrastructure, we can come to you. On-site delivery is available across Western Australia and can be conducted on your own equipment in your own environment. Contact us to discuss group bookings and scheduling options.
Related Courses
Crane licences are plant-specific, and many operators hold more than one class depending on the equipment they work with. The courses below are worth checking if you are building out your crane licences or preparing for a broader range of plant on site.
