Course Overview

CPPFES2005 – Demonstrate First Attack Firefighting Equipment gives participants the practical skills and knowledge to correctly use first attack firefighting equipment in an emergency situation. The course covers fire types and classifications, how to select the right extinguisher for the right fire, and how to safely operate and demonstrate fire extinguishers, fire hose reels, and fire blankets in line with manufacturer requirements.


This course is suitable for workers across a wide range of industries where fire risk is present, including construction, resources, manufacturing, and general industry. Training is delivered by experienced trainers at our facility or on-site across Western Australia, making it a practical option for businesses that need to train multiple staff at once.

Certification

Participants who successfully complete all training and assessment requirements will be issued a Statement of Attainment for CPPFES2005 – Demonstrate First Attack Firefighting Equipment by Paratus Training (RTO 45274).

Course Outline

  • Types of fires and fire classifications

  • Types of fire extinguishers and their purpose — when and how to use each type

  • Selecting the correct extinguisher for the fire type and classification

  • Safe and correct use of a portable fire extinguisher to attack a simulated fire

  • Purpose and correct use of a fire hose reel

  • Unrolling, operating, and rewinding a fire hose reel in line with manufacturer requirements

  • Checking a fire hose reel for leaks and shutting off water in the correct sequence

  • Purpose and correct use of a fire blanket

  • Safe and correct use of a fire blanket to attack a simulated fire

Prerequisites and Entry Requirements

There are no prerequisite units required for this course.


All participants must:

  • Be physically able to handle firefighting equipment during practical training and assessment

  • Bring a pen

  • Wear appropriate PPE: steel-capped boots, long pants, and a hi-vis long sleeve shirt. If you do not have a hi-vis shirt, Paratus Training can provide a hi-vis vest

  • Not wear loose or flowing items of clothing during practical activities

Who needs this training?

New to industry

If your workplace requires you to know how to use a fire extinguisher, fire hose reel, or fire blanket and you have not yet completed formal training, this course gives you the practical skills to respond safely and correctly in the event of a workplace fire.

Renewal due

There is no legislated expiry date for this unit, however Australian Standard AS 1851 recommends that workers who may be required to use fire equipment are refreshed annually. Many employers and principal contractors also require current fire safety training as a condition of site access. This course gets you back up to date with current requirements and equipment operation.
